Coates Corporation was established in 1954 with one bulldozer, an HD 9 Allis Chalmers. The Grading Division dates from this beginning of field work, pond building, and clearing new ground. Today, Coates Corporation is one of the largest grading, paving, utility and heavy haul contractors in eastern North Carolina. Jobs have been completed from Greensboro to the Coast including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Benson, Clayton, Garner, Cary, Wake County, Johnston County, and surrounding areas.
